A Bangkok merchant running a JCB-branded terminal doesn't care which acquirer sits behind the scenes -- until the settlement report is late. That's the kind of quiet plumbing change three SEA vendors touched this cycle: one on card-acquiring licensing, one on a distribution channel for game studios, one on a bank partnership. Sourced and dated, through 2026-08-24.

Fiuu

On July 23 and 24, Fiuu secured a JCB Direct Acquiring License, becoming a regional acquirer for Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Sources: SoyaCincau, BusinessWorld Online, Fintech News Malaysia.

The license lets Fiuu connect straight into JCB's network instead of routing transactions through a third-party acquirer. Settlement, transaction visibility, and merchant servicing for JCB card-present and card-not-present traffic now sit in-house at Fiuu, not with a middleman.

That's the boring-but-real kind of infrastructure win. It won't show up in a merchant-facing demo, and nobody's putting it in a marketing deck with a hero image. But it matters to whoever reconciles settlement reports at 11pm and used to wait an extra day for a third party to pass the numbers through.

Fiuu says Thailand is next for direct JCB acquiring. No date attached to that yet -- none of the three sources name one, so we're not going to invent a rollout quarter just to sound decisive.

For context: Fiuu launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in Malaysia back in April 2026, and reported USD 13 billion in 2025 payment volume, up 32.65% year-on-year, in a March disclosure. Neither is new this cycle -- background only, not a change.

Coda Payments

On July 27 and 28, Unity shipped IAP SDK 5.4 with Coda Payments built in as a direct-to-consumer payment provider. Game studios building on Unity can now launch branded webstores from inside the Unity Dashboard, running alongside standard app-store in-app purchases. Sources: PR Newswire, PR Newswire Asia, The Malaysian Reserve.

Coda's Codapay product processes more than 400 local and global payment methods across over 80 markets. Unity developers now get that payment network for webstore transactions -- the kind that sit outside standard app-store IAP, and outside the app-store's commission cut.

That's a real crack in the app-store tax, not just a partnership announcement dressed up for a press release. A studio routing even a slice of purchases through a Coda-powered webstore keeps more of each sale than the standard 15-to-30% app-store commission would leave behind. Whether studios actually shift meaningful volume there is the open question. Unity's dashboard integration lowers the friction, but friction was never the only reason studios stuck with app-store IAP.

Coda operates as merchant of record for these transactions. Tax calculation and remittance, FX conversion, cross-border settlement, PCI-DSS compliance, fraud and dispute handling -- all of that sits with Coda, not the publisher.

No pricing showed up anywhere in what we checked. Coda's fee structure is still quote-based, and we're not going to invent a number just to fill out a paragraph.

Tookitaki

On July 15, Tookitaki signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CloudMile in Kuala Lumpur to jointly build AI-driven financial-crime prevention for Malaysian banks. Sources: Manila Times / PR Newswire, New Straits Times, Digital News Asia.

Tookitaki's FinCense engine handles mule-account network identification, alert-investigation efficiency, and fraud-typology response. Pair that with CloudMile's cloud architecture, its AI Cloud Center of Excellence services, and AWS infrastructure, and Malaysian banks get a regulator-ready deployment path they didn't have to build themselves. The MoU covers joint solution development, go-to-market work, and knowledge-sharing across Malaysia's financial-services sector.

Tookitaki cites a 50% reduction in false alerts and a 45% improvement in fraud-detection cost efficiency from FinCense deployments. Those are company-reported numbers, not independently audited ones, so treat them as directional rather than gospel. Still, if even half of that holds up in production, it's a meaningful dent in the alert fatigue that burns out compliance teams at Malaysian banks every quarter.

Notes on scope

We first checked MISA, Haravan, and BukuWarung for this cycle. Nothing dated turned up -- just the usual evergreen product pages and 2026 "best of" review content, with no specific change attached in the last 30 to 60 days. So we swapped to Fiuu, Coda Payments, and Tookitaki, all three with dated, multi-source-confirmed updates.

SleekFlow, Finmo, Airwallex, and Lark all had real updates too, and good ones. SleekFlow shipped mobile app 2.0 and AgentFlow's Shopify actions. Finmo rolled out a client portal with AR/AP automation. Airwallex went fully commercial in Malaysia. Lark landed a deployment at myNEWS Holdings. Every one of those is dated to April, May, or June 2026, though -- outside our 30-to-60-day window as of today. Left out for timing, not because nothing happened at those four vendors.

If you only have time to check one of these three, make it Fiuu. A direct acquiring license changes who's actually moving the money behind the scenes for three countries at once -- that outranks a Unity SDK integration or an MoU that's still in the handshake stage.
